Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases of the gums and the supporting structures of teeth. If not adequately treated, they can result in the loss of bone around teeth and ultimately tooth loss. Although they are more common in adults, children and teenagers can also be affected. Early detection and diagnosis are key to successful treatment.
